5 Signs It’s Time For a Roof Restoration

Damaged roof with loose shingles

Is your roof showing signs that it is in need of roof restoration? Your roof may be an obvious feature on your home, however, some people don’t always notice or know what to look for. When you get to the time in your life when you own a house, you quickly learn that there’s a time for everything in terms of check ups, repairs, and so on. But when is the right time to check up on your roof?  This seems to be one thing that is not always common knowledge. Luckily there are common signs to look out for and information that will help you figure out what is best for you, your family, and your roof!

Cracks & Signs of Light In Your Attic

One of the first places you should look is the interior of your home, especially in your attic. Although you may not frequently visit your attic, if there are any cracks or spots of light coming in from the ceiling then it may affect your entire home as a result. A roof in good condition won’t let any air conditioning or heat slip away during the changing seasons. If you are unsure whether any cracks and visible light are actually detrimental, a good way to double check on this is to look at your heating and air conditioning bills. If the air is not as comfortable in your home and the bills are still expensive, it may be time to look into roof restoration.

Interior Staining & Spotting

Rather than just your attic, checking for signs of leaking or staining on the ceilings and walls throughout the rest of your home is recommended. Moisture can be trapped in several different places and begin to show over time. While some weather damage can be inevitable, your roof should still be in proper shape to avoid moisture build up and keep your home safe. If you begin to see stains or spots, be sure to have your roof checked for repair or roof restoration to prevent any further damages.

Loose Shingles

One sign that your roof is in need of restoration is loose shingles. If you spot areas on your roof that appear out of line and messy, then the shingles may have reached the end of their lifespan and need replacing. It is common for shingles to last for up to 20-25 years, however, sometimes weather can change that lifespan. Replacing your entire roof can be expensive and overwhelming. Luckily, roofing professionals are able to repair those few spots that may be susceptible to problems in the future.

Green Moss & Mold

Have you ever noticed spots of green moss forming in unexpected areas such as the side of your house or on top of your roof? What starts out as a patch of green can turn into several problems for your roof. One of the worst things for your roof is trapped moisture forming and spreading. Not only do these areas prompt the growth of moss or mold, but they create spots for further damage such as holes in your roof or shingle damage. Other than damage to your home, mold forming can cause health problems that will only get worse if they are not dealt with.

Gutter Overload

It is recommended that you check on your gutters every now and then. They can be telling of that status of your roof and shingles. The shingles on your roof are made with granules that make them more weather resistant and protective. If you begin to notice granules in your gutters, then that is your sign that your roof is getting older and you should consider roof restoration or replacement.
